Chevy Restoration PartsChevrolet or Chevy, is a brand of automobile that is now part of the General Motors group. William Durant, a successful manufacturer from Flint, Michigan, asked Louis Chevrolet, a well-known race car driver, to help design a car for introduction to the public. Durant had not yet formed a company to manufacture it. The Chevrolet Motor Car Company enters the turbulent automobile market on November 3, 1911. Durant envisions his new company as an inexpensive competitor to the Ford Model. The name Chevrolet was chosen by Durant after its designer Louis Chevrolet that was prominent in motor sports.
Chevrolet hits the streets of Detroit with the "Classic Six" in 1912. It was a 5-passenger touring sedan equipped with a 299 cubic inch (4.9 L), 6 cylinder engine capable of taking the car to a top speed of 65 miles per hour 105km/h).
In 1914, the Chevy "bowtie" logo appears. The bowtie became an advertising icon, and still the mark of today's icon. Throughout the 20th century, Chevrolet manufactured a wide variety of models. This included the large and luxurious Impala and the short-lived mid/rear-engined Corvair.
